The National Coach Mining Museum offers free entry as well as 7 days opening hours for anyone interested in the working life of miners throughout the years. This is based in a rural setting which houses some of the oldest mining sites in the whole of the UK. A mini miner play area and an underground tour are part of a few attractions on offer.
Bretton Country Park is worth visiting for its open air gallery with contemporary exhibitions and park area. It also has some indoor galleries available as well. A former pleasure ground, it showcases trees, hills and open spaces.
Nostell Priory House is a 300 year old, 14 room mansion which offers decorated rooms for all to view. Other museums include the Wakefield Art Gallery and the Wakefield Museum.
In terms of shopping, the Riding Shopping Centre can offer over 100 stores and café and onsite parking. It has many familiar stores such as BHS, Burger King and H Samuel. Eating and drinking places include Café Revive, Esquire Coffee House and also BHS Coffee Lounge.
